TAU-DREAM Desert Dust Forecast

The DREAM-8b (Dust Regional Atmospheric Model) is run operationally at Tel Aviv University as of 2006, producing daily forecasts the 3D distribution of dust concentrations for a set of 8 particle size classes between 0.1 and 7.1 microns.

Temporal coverage: 2016-present

Spatial coverage and resolution: Run over several model domains which include, the Mediterranean, North Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic Ocean. The main model domain, covers 20W – 45E, 15N – 50N with a resolution of 0.3 degrees.

All the major processes that dust particles are involved in are included—namely, production from sources, vertical turbulent transport, vertical advection, horizontal transport and wet and dry deposition. With the emissions dependent on friction velocity and surface conditions calculated by the model. It includes dust sources in the Western, Central and Eastern Sahara, as well as in the Arabian Peninsula.
