NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis 1

The NCEP/NCAR reanalysis 1 is a global reanalysis produced through a collaboration of NCEP and NCAR.

Temporal coverage and resolution:

  • Data is available for 01/01/1948-present day, with a latency of one day.
  • 6 hourly, daily and monthly mean data is available. Please note that monthly mean data is not available for all variables.

Horizontal resolution:

  • 2.5 x 2.5 degree grid

NCEP 1 Filenames at the IACDC

At the IACDC, NCEP Reanalysis 1 filenames follow the convention set by Obs4MIPs. (https://www.earthsystemcog.org/projects/obs4mips/).

In the following format: field_time-frequency_reanalysis_NCEP1_yyyymmdd-yyyymmdd.nc

So for example, air temperature on pressure levels, with a daily temporal resolution for 1st January-31st December 2016 has the following filename: ta_day_reanalysis_NCEP1_20160101-20161231.nc
