Israel Meteorological Service Data

The Israel Meteorological Service (IMS) contains a large collection of meteorological data. This includes data from automatic and manned stations all over Israel, including the Negev Desert, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Tzfat, Beit Dagan, Jordan Valley, stations by the Mediterranean Sea, the Dead Sea and the Red Sea, amongst others.

Hourly observations of meteorological variables such as temperature can be found, for a number of locations around Israel, along with rainfall observations.

Temporal Coverage and Resolution:

  • 10 min (currently by order only)
  • Hourly
  • 3 hourly
  • Daily
  • Monthly
  • Note that temporal resolution available is variable dependant
  • Temporal coverage is station dependant (as early as 1880s !)

Spatial Coverage and Resolution:

  • Station measurements
  • Approximately 250 daily and hourly meteorological stations throughout Israel
  • Over 1700 rain gauge stations throughout Israel

IMS Data at the IACDC

Information on what IMS data is ready for download at the IACDC can be found at the bottom of this page.

Should you require data not currently available, you can place a request by emailing contact@iacdc.tau.ac.il. We will be happy to download it and have it stored temporarily with us.

Alternatively IMS data can be accessed via https://ims.data.gov.il/ . Along with metadata, file descriptions, station maps and more.

IMS Filenames at the IACDC

At the IACDC, IMS filenames follow the following convention

station-name_station-number_frequency_dataset_yyyymmdd-yyyymmdd.csv

So for example, daily precipitation measurements from the Jesrusalem Centre station will be:

JERUSALEM-CENTRE_244731_day_IMSrain_20030104-20190331.csv
