Surface Analysis over Israel using the INCA System

The IACDC is proud to offer access to a 7 year analysis over Israel created by the Israel Meteorological Service (www.ims.gov.il) using the INCA System developed by the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik -ZAMG) in Austria.

It combines data from weather stations, radar and meteorological satellite to get a spatially consistent analysis over Israel.

  • Spatial resolution 1km
  • Temporal coverage: 01/01/2010-01/01/2017
  • Temporal resolution:
    • Hourly (temperature, relative humidity and winds)
    • 10min/hourly/daily (precipitation

The data is split into:

  • INCA database which contains relative humidity, temperature, u and v wind fields.
  • Rainmaps database

The IMS has also provided Python tools for reading the data.

Rainmaps are available in three temporal resolutions:

  • 10 minutes
  • Hourly

Some tools in Python for reading and plotting the INCA database have also been provided by the IMS.

These include, (directory in which they are found is bracketed):

  • Python scripts to plot topography, relative humidity, 2m temperature and winds (INCA_ANALYSIS_MAPS_PLOTS)
  • Auxiliary data (INCA_AUXILIARY_DATA)
  • Precipitation coordinates for radar (INCA_PRECIPITATION_COORDS)
  • Data digger (INCA_DATA_DIGGER)

Example output for each of the above can be found in the relevant directory.
